Asia Pacific Journal of Human Resource: Vol. 55 No. 1 January 2017
In this issue of the Asia Pacific Journal of Human Resources we present six papers with a focus on the strategies designed to overcome the challenges faced by various groups of workers including people with disability, immigrants, and women in the Asia Pacific region. The papers include topic areas such as comprehensive literature review on the state of HRM and people with disabilities; the experiences of skilled migrants from non-English speaking backgrounds securing employment in Australia; and the links betweeen gender discrimination, the quality of leader-member relations, and career success in South Korea. We also publish important papers on high-performance work systems, succession planning, and coaching. As editors of the journal, we strongly encourage the submisssion of manuscripts that examine the role of HRM in the employment and support of Indigenous people, immigrants, people with disability, women, and older people.
The first paper by Cavanagh and colleagues presents an extensive review of research which examines the impact of Human Resource Management (HRM) and management practices on workers with physical, mental health and intellectual disabilities. The second paper by Kim and colleagues investigates the contexts that give rise to human resource departments involment in the strategic activities of the organization. The third paper by Ressia, Strachan and Bailey presents a qualitative study of the experiences of professional skilled migrants from non-English speaking backgrounds in securing employment in Australia.
