Asia Pacific Journal of Human Resource: Vol. 55 No. 3 July 2017
In this issue of the Asia Pasific Journal of Human Resources we present papers with a focus on the role and effects of human resource management and on line managers in the development and support of workplace innovations such as lean management, mindfulness and flexible working practices. Other papers cover topic areas such as changes to employee self-esteem following cosmetic facial surgery, and their impact on job satisfaction and burnout. All of the papers in this issue contribute to understanding the important role of human resource management in supporting and enabling workplace innovation so as to positively impact employee attitudes, worksplace behaviours and performance. As editors of the journal, we strongly encourage the submissions of manuscripts that examine the role of HRM in generating, enabling and even blocking workplace innovation.
The first paper, by Huo and Boxall, explores the impact of lean management on the well-being of frontline managers of a chinese manufacturing organization. The second paper, by King and Haar, discusess the concept of ‘mindfulness’ and examines its impact on job performance among Australian leaders. The third paper, by Kalus and Cregan, examines changes to employee self-esteem following cosmetic facial surgery, and the resultant impact on job satisfaction and burnout. The fourth paper, by Williams, McDonald and Cathcart, presents results from qualitative study exploring how Australian executives signal thir support for flexible working practices to subordinate supervisors. The final paper of this issue, by Weale, Wells and Oakman, also examines the implementation of flexible working arrangements.
